It's a hard knock life

We're often reminded that, while our garden may be a relaxing and idyllic refuge for Scott and me, it's the setting of a real life and death struggle for the smaller inhabitants.

It can be hard work navigating around:

And sometimes it's not a happy ending, evidenced by this snail whose shell was pecked apart by a song thrush before being eaten:

or this honey bee, whom we observed in its death throes on the patio, its tongue unfurled:
